Brian McKeever, MPT, ATC, CEAS developed this course after years of clinical research, development, and successful implementation. Brian has been practicing as a Physical Therapist for over 25 years. He has worked with many fortune 500 companies, has traveled the country as a preferred provider of continuing education as well as presented his techniques and methods at APTA State Sections Conferences, and was chosen to provide his services at one of golfs most prestigious events, the 2014 US Open. Many of his treatment strategies were developed when working with the Intel Corporation. In an effort to better understand the muscle dysfunctions and injuries associated with working at a computer workstation Brian performed dynamic Semg (Surface Electromyography) assessments. The findings in these studies demonstrated that there could be underlying muscle dysfunctions even when outward strength and posture appeared normal. Based on these findings and further study Brian demonstrated that sitting at a computer could promote underlying muscular dysfunctions that could become locked into the CNS leading to pain and dysfunction. This is what he calls "Muscle Confusion". He then developed very successful exercise strategies to reverse these effects. This was the beginning of his Muscle Pattern Re-Organization proprioceptive specific techniques. Since it became clear that the CNS was in control of our movement dysfunctions, Brian then went on to study and develop treatment techniques to influence the CNS and restore optimal Muscle Pattern Organization or what he calls "Muscle Cooperation". He now has a patent pending device designed to promote Muscle Pattern Re-Organization to the spine through sequential proprioceptive specific awareness exercises designed to lock in the new patterns facilitated through the hands-on techniques.

- Are your client’s core muscles prepared for proper strengthening?
- And, what does that mean?
- Well, it is not just about strength.
- You can go wrong with just strong!
There are a lot of different takes on "the best" way to build a strong core, how to make core training translate into "functional movements", how to strengthen the core while protecting an underlying injury or surgical repair, and of course, how to protect against future reoccurrence.
With ALL the clinical information available today (some of it contradictory) it can cloud our judgements on how to properly rebuild the core for ALL the benefits listed above, which is not only absolutely possible, it should also be our goal.
Principles of Muscle Pattern Re-Organization for Core Strengthening.
First, we must get out of training (strengthening) mode and get into clinical thinking mode. It is not just about increasing strength.- The muscles must work in a coordinated and integrated order to ensure that they fire in proper sequence and proper degree so that the action is executed accurately.
- The muscles must have sufficient strength and endurance to satisfy the demands of segmental spinal motor control.
- The efficacy of this process is dependent on its controller, the central nervous system (CNS).
- It is the restoration and optimizing of the sequential detailed neurological input (afferent signals) and output (efferent signals) directed by our CNS that will predict how successful our physical therapy efforts will be.
The core is also dependent on the position and movements of the LE’s and UE’s so you will also learn to efficiently address these regional interdependencies utilizing small critical subsets of movements to create global changes.
Muscle Pattern Re-Organization is a proprioceptive specific protocol and philosophy in which we both prepare the muscles to be strengthened and then perform efficient corrective exercises with the goal of optimizing the efficacy of the controller (CNS).
And Here is Where We Separate Our Techniques from the Rest!
You will learn the role the ANS (Autonomic Nervous System) plays in influencing underlying muscle dysfunctions.
As far back as 1988 a research article published in the Journal of Physical Therapy demonstrated that the state of the Autonomic Nervous System can be an accurate predictor of the level of success with manual therapy sessions.
And. as recent as 2020
Isabel S Glover,. Stuart N Baker: Cortical, Corticospinal, and Reticulospinal Contributions to Strength Training: Journal of Neuroscience; 20 Jul 22;40(30):5820-5832.doi: 10.1523/JNEUROSCI.1923-19.2020. Epub 2020 Jun 29.
As the Reticulospinal Tract modulates ANS output these results indicate that strength training is associated with ANS neural adaptations in intracortical and reticulospinal circuits and are dominant factors in strength training.
Although the CNS is the controller and the efficacy of movement is dictated by ingrained CNS patterns, there is one more particularly important concept to also follow: The ANS can override the CNS causing disruption of these optimal muscle firing patterns. We call this "Afferent Noise". Afferent noise can come from active and latent trigger points, locked in tonic protective patterns from previously injured tissue, poor breathing patterns, and even emotional stress.
Our Muscle Pattern Re-Organization technique is anchored in re establishing proper CNS control and without addressing the ANS we can not achieve this.
With our method you will learn how to develop an integrated core. An integrated core is a truly functional core.
You will learn: - Instruction in our Myo-Sequence trigger point treatment. A sequential manual therapy approach to prepare the core muscles for optimal strengthening.
- A sequential corrective exercise approach to facilitate and optimize integrated muscle firing patterns.
- How our modern environment can affect the mechanoreceptors within the muscles leading to improper firing patterns and how to utilize small critical subsets of movements to create global changes and reverse these effects.
- How to prescribe simple and effective HEP’s optimizing long term spinal health.
- Simple and effective techniques to improve the health of the spinal discs and joints.
- The bottom line is, our body has built in systems for maintaining functional spinal muscle health, joint health, and disc health.
Facilitating these systems is our best path to achieving successful long term outcomes.
Here is even more of what you will get: - Detailed video instructions on how to use the system
- New exercises to sequentially activate and target the deep core musculature and provide synergy with the outer core musculature.
- Our home exercise videos which can be downloaded for your patients.
- Detailed editable treatment notes to help you efficiently document your newly learned skills.
